Changing How Experiential Education Changes Teachers of American History

Partnering with The Kentucky History Museum, Georgetown College,

National Council for History Education, Inc. (NCHE)

images.jpgThe 2008-09 CKSEC American History Cadre is designed for teachers who work in a collaborative setting teaching American History.  Participants will receive training on best practices and implementation strategies and receive resources to assist them along the way for three years (2009, 2010, and 2011). Schools may design their team(s) or select participants to best meet the needs of their school and history departments.  Recommended team members or individual participants include history teachers, special education teachers and collaborative teachers.  Each participant will be required to attend designated sessions, colloquiums, and institutes and participate in the mentoring and observations while implementing learning strategies and content learned. The colloquium programs will take place during the summers of 2009, 2010, and 2011 while Historical Encounter Sessions and mentoring and observations will take place throughout the school year.

Present Expectations of participants:

  • Participate in 4-6 after school history encounter groups
  • Participate in one of the following
    • NCHS Summer Colloquium (18 Hours)
    • Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute
    • Summer Teachers’ Curriculum Institute’s History Alive (TCI)
